help families at the border now

I feel like every week or month that passes I find myself in a moment pausing and coming up for air. Beyond my day to day and I realize that we are living in such a scary place, the world is turning into those dystopian places we have read about in novels or seen in movies and TV shows (Handmaid's Tale alert!!!).

This weekend was one of those weekends for me. I came up for air after going non stop on some big projects over the past few weeks as well as a quick trip to visit Mike in LA, with Momo in tow.

I had seen the headlines and understood the stories at a high level, and knew there was something I could do. But not sure where to start nor taken the time to dive in.

I ran a few searches and found a few folks I trust who shared various organizations you can donate to: ACLU, RAICES, Border Angels and more. Visit this story on Mashable for more organizations.

But the number one easiest and FREE thing you can do is call your senator. IT IS SO DAMN EASY. Your kid could do it. Go to this site: https://whoismyrepresentative.com/ enter your zip code and get the details on who your representatives and senators are and read this into their voice mailbox. Scripts via.

Script for most Democrats: Hi, my name is [name] and I'm calling from [city], zip code [#####]. I wanted to thank [Senator/Representative Name] for standing up for immigrant rights and urge [him/her] to do everything in [his/her] power to stop the policy of separating children from their parents at the border. This is a national emergency that we need to address immediately. Thank you.

Script for most Republicans: Hi, my name is [name] and I'm calling from [city], zip code [#####]. I'm calling to urge [Senator/Representative Name] to do everything in [his/her] power to stop this terrible policy of separating children from their parents at the border. This is very important to me, and I will be keeping it in mind when I vote in November. Thank you.

I found the attached script via Joanna Goddard's blog and encourage you to click over to her story 'On Stopping Family Separation' to learn more.

Thank you friends! Be active citizens not just passive social media activists.
