Mamás mueven montañas - raising funds for kids at the border
*UPDATE* with your help, support, donations, etc were able to donate a total of $24,570 to both Raices & Together Rising. See more in my insta post here.
Over the weekend I was in a funk. I thought it might be my period on the horizon, the June gloom or lingering symptoms from the stomach virus I had at the beginning of the week.
Sunday night it hit me though. It was an uneasy sense of guilt. It was haunting me all weekend as I enjoyed the simple pleasures of my upper middle class lifestyle. Scrolling thru instagram in the grass watching Momo and his cousins play. Or on my couch with my feet perched up on the cushions I would see regrams of recent headlines about the conditions at the border. The treatment of these children. I would double tap, regram, click the link to read more. But it was passive. Completely passive. The more information I downloaded into my brain made me feel worse and worse. What was I going to do about it? What could I do about it?
Then this morning I woke up to a message from my friend Kayla who said: “girl we need to organize something for the children at the border.” Five texts and a phone call later here we are. We have a plan!!!
MOM’S CAN MOVE MOUNTAINS /// mamás mueven montañas
We are giving our selves til July 1st to raise $10k that will be split between @raicesTexas and @Together.Rising two organizations that are working directly with families at the border to take care of legal fees associated with immigration and reuniting families affected by the current administration’s policies.
HOW TO PARTICIPATE:
Venmo as much as you can to either Kayla or my account on Venmo: @lydialauer @kaylahoppins
Once you have donated share the image above and tag friends, family, etc. and encourage them to donate as well. Use hashtag #mamasmuevenmontanas which translates to moms move mountains. Muchas Gracias to @guadypleskacz for doing this beautiful sketch for us.
At the end of the week we will share our total raised & other ways to help these families.
Thank you!!! More updates to come.
